Bill's good friend Brian Evans talks about his entertainment series in Maui and what it's like to hang out with Bill. I think he missed the part at the end about Bill riding on the backs of dolphins to win the surfing competition while blindfolded. BECAUSE HE'S BILL.
"The last time I had dinner with William Shatner, he started talking about his salad that was just delivered. There was a jalepeno pepper on it and he stopped the conversation we were all having and said, 'Look at this! This is the perfect jalepeno pepper. This is the true essence of a jalepeno pepper,’ and he went on for about 40 minutes on the jalepeno pepper. What was amazing about it is that you were captivated by the topic."

Evans said he still isn't sure if Shatner was serious or just messing with them. Also during that same trip he and Bill ended up jet skiing. Hilarity ensued.

"He went way past the buoys where you’re supposed to go," Evans explained of Shatner's daring on a jet ski. "The security jets went out there to get him, telling him he couldn't be out that far. 'Yes I can,' Shatner reportedly told the enforcers, 'I’m Bill Shatner.' He refused to go back and they didn’t make him," Evans said.

Yeah, it was funny when Kirk lost his awesome...

But at least he got it back.

Spock never had any to begin with.

The mighty electricity generated by the powerplant in the background is drowned out by the non-awesomeness of the lameass bucket-o-boredom in the foreground. And the car's pretty yawn-inducing too.

P.S. I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be a color picture but the film was too bored to give its all.

Yeah, it's Cranky Night at Kitty's.

Esquire Interviews with Bill

Read the interview

And this gem from around 2005. How many different ways can Bill say "It's like making love"?
Sex should be a template for your day. You need to start slow and end completely.

Whether it's drugs or artistry or athletics, all life seeks to re-create that ultimate sexual moment.

I hunger -- my passions are every bit as unbanked as they were when I was thirty-five.

Private Sale: Lot #1, Nimoy zines

Private Sale Shill #1 on MP3

From the great big Box o' Mystery that JK gave to me, we have our first offering.

Three zines grandly titled "Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Yearbook" are from the late 1970s and chock full of fan insanity: pictures, stories, poems, cartoons, news, and loads and loads of (really good) fan art. It's all about Nimoy, of course, so we're happy to sell these to the Nimoy fans we know are out there.

We've got the years 1976, 1977, and 1978. You can see the same zines on eBay here and here.

They're stapled together with nice glossy covers, and in great condition. (And they've been living in Kitty's house for years with Big Cardboard Kirk).

$20 each. We'll send them by Media Mail and you can pay by PayPal. If you're interested, send us email at lookathisbutt AT gmail dot com.

The 1976 edition has a great article about the con that year in New York. It includes this eye-scorching picture of Bill in a completely over-the-top sheepskin coat.

Shit Harve Bennett Says

From an article at Daily Tidings (which sounds like a religious website but none of the quotes start with "Lo!" so I guess not.)
On the set, [Bennett] recalls, Bones (DeForest Kelley) was a "kind healer who kept the big egos from tearing each other apart," while Kirk (William Shatner) was "a study in being the matinee idol — brilliant, energetic and rather full of himself."

We comment during an iChat:

LENE: how can he not be full of himself? Himself is awesome and overflows the human container

KITTY: Yeah - it's surprising his awesomeness hasn't burned out the human container, kind of like Sargon in Kirk's body. But more awesome.

And we're fine with it.

Thanks, Sean.

For one man, shame has no meaning.

As Bill was shilling for "Shit My Dad Says" (yes, I actually typed it out--Shit. Get over it.)

One critic repeatedly asked about a theory that pornography and the social nature of Star Trek fans "did sort of launch the Internet." Shatner tried to deflect the question but the critic followed up and finally asked, “Do you not in some minor way feel responsible?”
I am responsible. And I'm shouldering it. I'm okay.
Eat his static, Al Gore.

And man oh manischewitz, does he look good!

Brad Paisley's mancrush

From The Star:

William Shatner’s last words on his 2004 album Has Been, “Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m real,” come from a song Paisley wrote for him.

So who was more exciting to talk to, the sitting President or the imaginary starship captain? “No offence to Mr. Obama,” Paisley says with a laugh. “I think if the president ever met Bill he would agree. I’ve never run into the likes of him anywhere. Truly a blast to be around, he has more energy than me — and he’s almost 80. ‘You want to ride motorcycles, let's ride motorcycles. You want to jump out of an airplane? I'm free tomorrow.’

“That's just how to live your life, man,” Paisley says.

Betrayed!!!!

He probably had an experience that was nothing at all like making love. OK, that was snarky. It's actually a very interesting article.

Could This Be Genuine?

Now up for sale at the Heritage Auction Galleries:

Description: William Shatner's Star Trek TV Series Costume Wig. A brown hairpiece made for him for an unspecified production. Possibly worn by Shatner during the third season of the groundbreaking science fiction series Star Trek, which spawned the mega-successful franchise. Hand-tied and made from human hair, the wig includes the original MGM wig stock record card, reading "Stock No. 1244, Date 6-7-68, Original Player: William Shatner, Description: Brown - 1850" with the added notation: "Rented to F. Phillips - Paramount Studios 6-7-68/6-17-68." Fred Phillips was the make-up department head for the entire Star Trek series from 1966-1969, and he rented the wig for Shatner from MGM Studios (most likely from William Tuttle, who was the make-up department head of MGM). The wig has been restyled for photography, and is in Excellent condition. From The MGM Wig Archive. Estimate: $2,000 - up.

Bidding starts at $1000!

Your LAHB gals wonder if this is really a wig Bill wore on Trek - we always thought that (even in the third season) Bill wore a piece, and not a wig that covered his whole head. Maybe it was for something else? We've asked our pals at Shatner's Toupee for their analysis.

The only time Bill wore an actual wig in Trek was when he did that one shot as his brother Sam in Operation Annihilate! Are there others? Let's solve this, people!

P.S. from Kitty: Photoshoppers, a challenge! Can you put this believably on Bill's head?

A Fight Club We Can Believe In

From Floobynooby's 51 Conspiracy Theories That Don't Exist But Should:
18. In 1992 Patrick Stewart and William Shatner had a bare-knuckles boxing match in the basement of a sound stage in Hollywood, the result of which Shatner had to die at the end of Star Trek: Generations.
AT LAST! OF COURSE! How could it be otherwise?

The $5 Canadian William Shatner Coin!

From the Toque:
William Shatner was chosen to be represented on the coin because of his status as a hero to Canadians, and especially the science fiction community, which makes up approximately 80% of the Canadian population. [Really?]

Most Canadian coins are composed of standard base metals. However with Shatner on the face, they thought it more appropriate to go with a heavier metal, and ultimately chose a nickel-plated tritanium alloy. [Not gold?]

Shatner beamed with joy when told he had been selected to be on the face of the coin.

"I can't...tell you...how happy I am," he said in halting English. "No bones about it. I hope these coins...live long...and prosper...like my career."

Risk Is His Business!

From TulsaWorld.com.
"I'm actually working on an album now," [William Shatner] said Monday.

[H]e called it a "concept album." [...] "I'm attempting to do something that might embarrass me," he said of the album.

When I responded that it's great he's still willing to take career risks, he replied: "Yes, let's say it like that. I'm still taking risks."

Also this (which is so Shatner I can't stand it!):
On his Twitter feed, he talked in May about attending a friend's 100th birthday party, where "I understand there's going to be a lot of music and dancing girls."

What about his own 100th birthday party?

"I'd like to hold it in the Sierra, in the mountains, and then fall," Shatner said.

With or without a parachute? "Without."

No music and dancing girls?

"On the way down."

Go Read This Now!

From the Globe and Mail Update, a report on Bill receiving a Lifetime Achievement at the Banff World Television Festival.
[S]peaking to the industry crowd from prepared notes, Shatner was anything but flippant. Sure he’s an actor, but when he choked up as he dedicated his award to his wife Elizabeth, he seemed to have everyone in the room convinced. “My lifetime achievement is being married to her, and every day reminding myself that sustaining a marriage is in itself the achievement of a lifetime.”
And Elizabeth's response:
“I was totally overwhelmed ... and consumed with love,” Elizabeth Shatner, who was in tears during the speech, said afterward. “It’s his lifetime-achievement award, but I would thank him for taking me on the adventure of a lifetime.”

What a guy. What a gal. I love this.

I prefer TAS Kirk

From TrekCore's YouTube channel:
Paramount seriously considered making a CGI series based on the Original Series. There were also two video tests from the project that were leaked to the public. The first one is of Kirk's head, while the second is of Spock doing Joe Pesci's lines from the movie Goodfellas. Paramount eventually decided not to do the project.
Gee, I wonder why.
