The West Australian reports that J.J. Abrams is considering including Shatner in the sequel to his widely loved and successful Star Trek reboot. "I would love to work with him," Abrams said at a press conference. "It was a foregone conclusion we wanted him in [Star Trek]. The problem was his character died on screen in one of his Trek films and we decided that we wanted to adhere to Trek canon.” Abrams further said that he felt they had more of an opening with the sequel to find a manner in which to reintroduce the older Captain Kirk.
In fact, Abrams and Shatner are even joining each other for a “dinner date.” This may be more serious than we thought, guys. Anyway, I have faith in Abrams being able to pull off some sort of time-machine-portal-hole-thingy that will bring old Kirk back to life. And maybe if Shatner gets the job, he’ll stop crying on YouTube about the whole thing.
The biggest award of the night was the "Ultimate Scream" and Star Trek was up against some stiff competition. Actor Morgan Freemen presented the award and after he announced Star Trek had won, the crowd got a surprise when William Shatner stepped onto the stage to accept the award. After taking the award, Shatner stated (via AP):
"J.J., I’ll handle this," Shatner said to J.J. Abrams, seated in the audience, who also won best director and best sci-fi movie for "Star Trek."
"This movie was big," Shatner said. "Imagine how big it could have been with me in it? … I’ll be waiting for your call."
My brother and I were 6 or 7 years old when my dad told us that he was going to take us to the Star Trek set for the whole day. We had done this before, so we were VERY excited. He picked us up really early in the morning, in his new Volvo sports car. It was really small so my brother had to sit in the small area behind the seats. Anyway, we got to the studio and went in to my dad's dressing room. We were there less than 20 minutes when my dad was called to the set. He told us to "stay put" and not to go outside of his room. My brother asked him if we could hang out in the space shuttle (shuttle craft) while he was gone. My dad said sure. He took us there and closed the door behind us. For those of you who can't picture it, it was a small, but real looking shuttle craft and the inside couldn't have been more than 8' by 5 '. Both my brother and I played in there many times before and I think my dad liked it because it kept us out of trouble.
We played for a little while, but being 7 year old twin boys, we had to wander. We opened the shuttle craft door and escaped. We knew what studio my dad was in so we avoided it at all costs. If my dad knew we were "out and about", he would have been really mad. We entered one of the studios and started playing in the ships hallways and even sat in the Captains chair on the bridge. We then decided to snoop around to see what was in the nooks and crannies (meaning drawers and cabinets). One of the rooms had these strange looking cabinets that were very high (for a 7 year old) and angled. Of course we had to see what was in there. My brother got on my shoulders and slid it open. Just then, about 200 (or more) Tribbles fell on our heads. It scared the hell out of us! Not only because it freaked us out, but we knew that we would be in a heaping load of tribble trouble if my dad found out. We ran as fast as we could back to the shuttle and closed the door behind us. Not long after that, my dad arrived to find his angelic twins still in the safe little shuttlecraft where we were no tribble at all..
For you non-trek fans, or those who are too young to remember, a Tribble was a small, hairy little ball. They were very prolific alien animals that eventually filled the whole ship.. The cabinet we opened up was the same one that was used in the scene where Captain Kirk did the same thing as we did. They fell on his head too.
Several years ago I told my dad that story, and he said that he would have been really pissed if he had found out. The end.

William Shatner receives a special honor from Pope Benedict XVI.
Prior to this episode, we’d seen only hints that William Shatner could be a great comic actor. The giveaway moment was the storage compartment scene. I had written in the outline and the script that the tribbles fall on Kirk’s head. I had always assumed that at some point, Shatner would say, ‘This makes my character look too silly,’ and I was prepared to have him step aside just before the tribbles fell. But William Shatner has always been the consummate professional and I believe he was eager to show off his comic abilities as well. The moment when he is up to his neck in tribbles, when he gives Dr. McCoy a very annoyed look, that’s equal to any expression that Oliver Hardy ever gave to Stan Laurel at his most exasperated.

William Shatner's Mysteries of the Gods
"The Mysteries of the Gods" is a full length documentary portraying the ancient astronaut theories of Swiss-born researcher Erich von Däniken. The film is hosted and narrated by no less than William Shatner himself. Everything from the Peruvian Crystal Skull to the megalith structures in the jungles of Southeast Asia is accepted as evidence for the Ancient Astronaut theory. Cave drawings, old legends, Biblical stories and even some psychic visions of late Jeanne Dixon are understood as stone cold facts. Eric von Däniken's reputation was still quite unspoiled at the time so all the arguments (even the most far-fetched) are shown with a great confidence. William Shatner is-as usual-overacting his part. With all the strange "scientific" people, long shots, enthusiastic Shatner and eerie 70's synthesizer music this amazing documentary was from the day one destined to become a cult classic.
This one's from a con that took place at the Commodore Hotel, Feb. 14 - 17, 1975. (I was 13.) The guests were Isaac Asimov, Majel Barrett, Hal Clement (sci fi author), David Gerrold, Jeff Maynard (creator of the Andromeda Light Show), Gene Roddenberry, William Shatner, George Takei, and William Ware Theiss (ST costume designer). (Can you believe that guests were listed in alphabetical order rather than prominence? Bet Shatner would not allow that today!)
