If none of the other media Bill's conquered work out...

He can always work as a clown for children's parties.

From CultureMap.com:
Paisley has been buddy-buddy with William Shatner ever since Shatner made a guest appearance in Brad’s “Celebrity” music video. In fact, he helped write a song for Has Been, Shatner’s acclaimed album of prose-poems set to music. So when Shatner came to the Nashville Film Festival last year to introduce William Shatner’s Gonzo Ballet, a well-received documentary inspired by Has Been, Brad invited him to spend some time over at the Paisley family farm. “And I’ll tell you one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen,” Paisley says. “I came home from the recording studio, and [Shatner] was already over at the house, playing with my two-year-old son in the basement — with light sabers. I walked in to see my son and Capt. Kirk, dueling with light sabers. I looked over at my wife, and asked: ‘What the hell kind of bizarre universe have I just walked into here?’”

Bill & Ricky Gervais!

Ricky blogged about this today: "I'll be hanging with The Shatmeister."

The deets:
William Shatner, best known as Star Trek's Captain Kirk, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 Banff World Television Festival. After more than 5 decades in the business, Shatner has continually leveraged his fame to build enduring properties as a director, producer, author, recording artist, screenwriter and spokesperson.

A brand unto himself, Shatner’s next project is the recently announced Sh*t My Dad Says, based on the popular Twitter account that’s infamous for quotes like "A parent's only as good as their dumbest kid. If one wins a Nobel Prize but the other gets robbed by a hooker, you failed."

Register now to hear from William as he shares thoughts and lessons from his career in an interview open to all Banff World Television Festival delegates.

And about Ricky:
Known around the world as the creator of The Office and Extras, as well as a renowned comedian and actor, Ricky Gervais has been selected as the winner of this year's Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award.

"This is probably the greatest honour of my career. Only the Nobel Peace Prize can top this, but I will only accept that in person if the ceremony is held somewhere as beautiful as Banff. I think they Fedex luckily," said Gervais.

In addition to accepting the prestigious award, Gervais will share his reflections on his career and achievements in an interview open to Banff World Television Festival attendees.

I don't understand what this is, but Bill's calling himself the Admiral! And there's a picture of Kirk on the home page.

Welcome Citizens of the Myouterspace United Planets.

The Counsel is now interviewing Industry Credited Producers for Starship Captain Positions.

Starship Captains’ and Officers’ responsibilities will be creating an original entertainment project, whether it be a live action film, animation, or stage production; and recruiting talent from the various Planets to become Starship Crew Members, who will be working alongside the Captain on his/her project.

The Starship Crew, under the Captain’s leadership, must prepare a fully developed presentation of the Ship’s project, complete with Art, Graphic Design, Characters, Story, Director and Music. The Captain will become Executive Producer, Officers will be Co-Producers, and the Crew will work on the project as Associate Producers.

Creative Talent, be sure to register on the planet that hosts your specialty, and you may be selected by a Captain to join his/her Starship Crew.

Visitors won't be able to participate on a Starship unless they become a citizen of a United Planet. I will be monitoring all Starship projects, and reviewing each Captain's Log, where progress will be recorded each step of the way.

The Captains will seek out new talent on the various Planets and build a winning team.

There are six Starships ready to crew-up and develop a dynamic entertainment production, so register now, participate and keep your eyes to the stars,

William Shatner

Bill & Leonard on horses

Ignore the fact that this video "stars" the stupid DJ named Mancow. Just focus on Bill.

Things to note:

1. Bill was a lot thinner
2. He actually ran out into the middle of the arena! Ran! I don't think he could do that now.
3. Leonard looks pretty good on a horse
4. Liz looks FABULOUS! Love her vest!
5. Bill has a horrible shirt (as are most of his shirts)
6. Bill is ever so professional in the face of Mancow, who should be a rodeo clown.

Can anyone tell us what year this was?

Bill at the Olympics!

OF COURSE HE WAS THERE! HE'S THE GODDAMN CAPTAIN!

On February 28, 2010 former Star Trek star William Shatner made an appearance at the 2010 Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony. Shatner used his camera time to tell the audience how great a country Canada truly is, citing their "magnificent lakes" and "stunning sunsets" as reasons why the country demands so much appreciation. He also took a moment to give a shout out of pride to his hometown of Montreal. Shatner then introduced humor into his mix by reminding everyone that Canadian's are special because, "we are a people that know how to make love in the canoe" which, he added, is why Canada's health care system "covers splinters". Shatner also commended on the beauty of the country's Rocky Mountains and glaciers, and noted that minus thirty degree temperatures are "just another sign of global warming" . Shatner also linked Canada to Star Trek, calling the host country the "final frontier".

Sorry about the commercials.

Bill Is Everywhere!

From the William Shatner Fan Club:
"Shatner's Raw Nerve" is currently airing on the Bio Channel Sunday nights at 10pm. It is in its second season. Bill also has three other television projects in the works:

In late March, he is set to film a TV pilot for a new half hour sitcom called "Shit My Dad Says." The show is about a 29-year old editor working for a magazine who moves back in with his parents and documents his father's statements and observations. If the show is picked up as a series this fall, the title will likely change.

He also has two other series in the works. The first is a documentary called "Aftermath" for A&E. Bill is set to host and produce. The network put in an initial order of six episodes. The show will deals with the aftermath of an indicent, three or four years after it occurred. The first episode will revolve around the Chandra Levy case.

Lastly, Bill will be hosting and producing a documentary called "Weird or What" for the Discovery Channel. The first order is for ten episodes.

The latter two series will likely begin airing this fall.

Every channel, all Bill, all the time!

Look at his decaf!

From SFoodie:
Well, well, well: According to the counter guy at my video store, William Shatner stoped into Ritual Roasters on Valencia and 21st last night, fresh from his joint appearance with the still-hottt Sir Patrick Stewart at San Francisco's Star Trek Convention. He was not, apparently, escorted by men in Klingon prostheses. Boldly going where the great man went, I immediately walked to Ritual to engage the counter staff. No success ― the woman I talked to hadn't yet heard about the visitation from her coworkers, so no stories of Priceline deals or overeager fans. In honor of the visit, though, I ordered Kirk's reported drink, a double decaf macchiato. The captain has good taste ― the macchiato had just enough froth to knock out the tribble treble notes in the flavor and smooth over any bitterness, leaving only the deep, throbbing bass of the dark roast.
Well, of course he drinks decaf! Bill + caffine = Perpetual Motion!

Bill, you dog!

It's in the dictionary

Logan pointed this out to me today.

If you go to Urban Dictionary and look up "marital aid", it gives you this definition:
1) Truly an item or object used to create a better sexual experience for lovers. A vibrator or sex toy. A dildo or the like. Sexual lubricants. Flavored sexual lubricants. Ribbed condom or the like.

And then you get this example:

Kirk: "Spock, come to my ready room, and bring our favorite marital aid!"

The OED it's not! Slashers are *everywhere*.

Tiffany Bolling: Bill So Horny

1991 interview with Tiffany Bolling, Bill's co-star in Kingdom of the Spiders. Here's the relevant bit:

KG: You worked with William Shatner on KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS.

BOLLING: Well, first of all, where we shot was a dream come true, in Sedonia, Arizona, it’s like four seasons come through every day, you get your snow at night and then it warms up to about 70° in the daytime and you can go lie by the pool. So, it was a wonderful place to be able to shoot a film and I felt so bad for those poor spiders, because they were all so innocent, bless their hearts. And Bill Shatner…he’s a horny guy, like most men. [Laughs]

KG: So he chased you around?

BOLLING: No. Well, just little [things], so that was fine. His wife, Marcie, was in the film, too, you know.

KG: So he kind of flirted with you?

BOLLING: Well, sure, but I thought that was great, because it helped us work together, because I’m supposed to be this very tongue-in-cheek "Ms." type of person, and so he used that a lot.

Heh heh heh. "He's a horny guy": truer words were never spoken.

Thanks, Greg!

I dare you to order the red one.

Star Trek Original Series Wetsuit

Star Trek fans eager to explore Earth’s ocean can now do so while wearing a wetsuit modeled after an original series uniform.

123009UnderseaThe Star Trek wetsuit, which sells for $469.95, was designed by JMJ wetsuits, using the highest quality materials and expert craftsmanship.

Each wetsuit is custom made, tailored to one’s exact measurements. The 7MM wetsuit is available in blue, yellow or red, although fans will remember that “red shirts” in the original series often met an untimely end and perhaps it would be unwise to tempt fate (and the sharks!) by choosing that color.

Xmas Special That Never Was

A repost from John Scalzi. Check out the others ones too - all spot on and hilarious.

The Lost Star Trek Christmas Episode: “A Most Illogical Holiday” (1968)

Mr. Spock, with his pointy ears, is hailed as a messiah on a wintry world where elves toil for a mysterious master, revealed to be Santa just prior to the first commercial break. Santa, enraged, kills Ensign Jones and attacks the Enterprise in his sleigh. As Scotty works to keep the power flowing to the shields, Kirk and Bones infiltrate Santa's headquarters. With the help of the comely and lonely Mrs. Claus, Kirk is led to the heart of the workshop, where he learns the truth: Santa is himself a pawn to a master computer, whose initial program is based on an ancient book of children's Christmas tales. Kirk engages the master computer in a battle of wits, demanding the computer explain how it is physically possible for Santa to deliver gifts to all the children in the universe in a single night. The master computer, confronted with this computational anomaly, self-destructs; Santa, freed from mental enslavement, releases the elves and begins a new, democratic society. Back on the ship, Bones and Spock bicker about the meaning of Christmas, an argument which ends when Scotty appears on the bridge with egg nog made with Romulan Ale.

Filmed during the series' run, this episode was never shown on network television and was offered in syndication only once, in 1975. Star Trek fans hint the episode was later personally destroyed by Gene Roddenberry. Rumor suggests Harlan Ellison may have written the original script; asked about the episode at 1978's IgunaCon II science fiction convention, however, Ellison described the episode as "a quiescently glistening cherem of pus."

Of course, not mentioned here is the classic episode where Kirk is in a coma and Spock dresses up like an elf to help wake him up.

See? We were right about Star Trek vs. Star Wars

Via Pandagon - read the whole thing, but here's the relevant part:
Star Wars (or what became of it) ended up being a rather terrible story about a society run on genetic predeterminism. The police force of the “good old days” were the secretive elite of a crypto-religious sect who fully accepted that at all times, two of their members would be trying to destroy civilization as they knew it. Membership was based on an accident of genetic luck, and those who lacked the access and wherewithal to get screened at the proper time were out of luck, stuck at the whim and mercy of their telekinetic, mind-altering overlords. Government was largely ineffectual, a dysfunctional democracy latched onto a decaying royal system. The entire lesson of Star Wars is that this highly traditional, morally unyielding system fails, and it fails miserably, as the billions of people killed in the Sith insurrection would have testified, had they, well, lived.

I'll take the meritocracy and the technology, please.

Trek Zombies

I don't get the whole zombie thing - seems like a limited concept, and also, they're not hot. But anyway, courtesy of @wilw on Twitter, there is this: He's Undead, Jim. Here's the description:

It was worse than dead; his brain was gone.

There are a lot of ways to die if you're a red shirt. You can be shot by a poisonous plant, step on an exploding rock, be struck by lightning, get whacked by a native with a big stick, choke on a dikironium cloud, or, our personal favorite, be beamed down to a planet that's not actually there and get sucked into space, never to be seen again. But it's an entirely different matter when Bones says, "He's undead, Jim." That's way worse than dead, and the entire galaxy could be at risk! Be sure to double tap with your phaser.

Fun factoid: The very first "He's dead, Jim" referred to a dog that had an unfortunate encounter with a transporter. Yeah. You knew that. But what is it with us using dogs for space experimentation? They may be "man's best friend," but, if actions speak louder than words, the feeling's not so much mutual. (Don't worry. We won't be sending any of our puppies into space, fictional or otherwise.)

Buy the shirt at ThinkGeek.

TNG Dubbed in Nonsense

O.M.G. I laughed so hard at this. God, people are clever.

The Intruder on the Intertubes

Via MoreShat:

Just wanted to let you know that "Shame" aka "I Hate Your Guts" aka "The Intruder" is in the public domain and can be watched and legally downloaded here: www.archive.org/details/shame_

This 1962 film directed by Roger Corman stars William Shatner as a racist mystery man sent to stir trouble in a southern town that is about to integrate its high school. Roger Corman claims this is the only film of the over 300 he's produced to lose money. (That's a real shame!)

Today's Trek News: Spiders and KHAAAAN???

So I had to check out IMDB just now, to verify that Chris Pine was indeed in Princess Diaries 2 (and no, he couldn't act then either), when I see these two items of Trek related news:

William Shatner’s ‘Kingdom of the Spiders’ Coming To DVD

To some, nothing is scarier than spiders, unless you consider William Shatner’s career in the late 70’s (zing!). But there were a few exceptions and even Chris Pine can admit it’s pretty difficult to follow Shatner as James Tiberius Kirk. One film that Shatner did before throwing the maroon jumpsuit back on was a little film called Kingdom of the Spiders in which he takes down a legion of evil spiders.

Shatner played Dr Robert Hansen, who is sent to a small town after a serious of mysterious animal deaths, only to discover that it was only the beginning, and that an evil spider army was behind the whole thing. Finally, the film is making it’s way to DVD for all of us to relive, and we even have the original trailer for you to get excited for all over again.

Special features on the DVD include an all new interview with Shatner, audio commentary by Director John Bud Cardos, Producer Igor Kantor, spider wrangler Jim Brockett and Cinematographer John Morrill. Also included is a Spider Wrangler featurette and rare behind the scenes footage.

YEAH MORE SHATNER COMMENTARY! I hope it's as good as the stuff on Incubus.

But then there's this:

The rebirth of Khan: should he be played by an unknown in Star Trek 2?

Rumours abound that JJ Abrams - if he is to helm the revamped Enterprise's second outing - will cast Lost hunk Nestor Carbonell in the role made famous by Ricardo Montalban. Is that playing too safe?

Directors have their favourites. Follow David Lynch on his latest journey to Planet Weird and you'll probably find Laura Dern landed some time before you; pick up a Sam Raimi flick and don't be surprised if he's found some way to shoehorn in Bruce Campbell.

One of the things about last year's Star Trek revamp that impressed me most was that Jj Abrams didn't fall back on tried and tested actors from his previous ventures to populate the bridge of the USS Enterprise. Sure, there was Simon Pegg, who starred in the director's debut movie in charge, Mission Impossible 3, and Zoe Saldana from his Bad Robot production company's TV series Six Degrees. But Chris Pine was a near unknown, and the likes of Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban (whose Eomer in the Lord of the Rings trilogy was over half a decade ago) were plucked from Heroes - in which Abrams had no involvement - or obscure genre fare like Pathfinder.

We should perhaps give the film-maker the benefit of the doubt, then, over a new report that Nestor Carbonell, aka the mysterious Richard Alpert from Abrams's TV series Lost, is set to play Khan in the forthcoming sequel to Star Trek. The casting is not yet confirmed, and it's not even certain that the next installment of the adventures of Captain Kirk and co will focus on the bad-guy portrayed so memorably by Ricardo Montalban in 1982's excellent The Wrath of Khan. But the story emanates from comingsoon.net, who just posted a one-on-one interview with Abrams, so it's not too hard to imagine that it might have been sparked by some off-the-record comments that couldn't be published as part of the main piece.

NOOOOOOOOO! For the love of all that is good and pure in the world, DON'T DO KHAN! That is a surefire way to torpedo this new franchise in the second movie, DON'T DO IT!!!!

Expect more discussion of this on the next show.

Bicycle Girls, Uhura Style

Courtesy of our friend Frederick at My Star Trek Scrapbook - he says:
The fantastic photo is not from my collection (sadly) but I found it on the Retrospace blog, located here. The page is from a 1969 cover article on Nichelle that features many good pics! But this one can't be beat for sheer awesomeness.
TOTALLY agree. There isn't even a measuring system on earth capable of calculating this awesomeness of Nichelle in this photo. Nichelle conquers the world!!

Those tweets were FAKE! O.M.G.

Bill reads Levi Johnston's tweets

Go Bill! I love his expression on "LMAO", especially since I'm sure he has no idea what it means (even after it was explained to him multiple times).

My best,

Lene

Star Trek Weekend at Madame Tussaud

If you're in L.A. November 5-8, here's a coupon to get $8 off admission to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. Get there quick before all the charm & hotness melts the Kirk figure!

Note that the coupon says STAR TREK THE EXHIBITION (still no punctuation but now they can afford ALL-CAPS!) is also in L.A. Hey, LAHB stringers, go forth and report back! How is this different from what's in San Jose?

From NBC-LA:
Few fictional characters have mastered the still pose like Captain Kirk. The hand-on-chin thinking pose. The listening-to-Spock-incredulously pose. The quiet-sitting-and-staring-at-the-Klingon-Bird-of-Prey pose.

So that the "Star Trek" man is getting honored at Madame Tussauds Hollywood with his own figure makes perfect sense. We just want to know exactly which pose Tussauds opted to go with, since there are so many iconic stances to choose from.
